Meta becomes the first company to hit the brake on the absurd AI hiring spree. This is largely due to their acquisition of ScaleAI, where they now need to figure out what to do with a bunch of AI engineers. I'm sure those $100 million offers will be back on the table before long. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/08/21/meta-brakes...

Meta shareholders suing Zuckerberg over intentionally failing to comply with FTC consent order requiring Facebook to protect user privacy. Facebook then spent more than $8 billion settling lawsuits over privacy violations. Shareholders now want compensation, arguing that Zuckerberg (and former COO Sheryl Sandberg) violated their fiduciary duties. https://nypost.com/2025/07/15/business/meta...

Meta smart glasses coming to Oakley and Prada. To be honest some heads up display sunglasses for cycling could be useful. All the stuff you get on a Garmin/Wahoo but without the computer now and instead right in your normal field of view. Doesn't seem like this iteration actually includes any AR features though, just more camera features like in the existing glasses. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/06/17/meta-oakley...

It's finally happening - Meta is bringing ads into WhatsApp. https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/16/business/tru... The enshittification of WhatsApp was only a matter of time since its purchase by Facebook back in 2014 for $19 billion dollars. Actually the most interesting part about this is Zuckerberg calling WhatsApp "the next chapter" in Meta's history. This being in light of the > $100 billion spent on Metaverse and AI initiatives that have been all over the web.

It's crazy how WhatsApp has taken over the entire messaging market, other than in the United States. Businesses use WhatsApp for payments and customer support elsewhere in the world, it's completely ubiquitous.

And now Meta has hired Jack Rae, a researcher formerly at Google's DeepMind AI unit, who will join this so-called superintelligence division.

Meta signs nuclear power deal with Constellation Energy https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2025/06/03/meta-si... Meta has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy for the output of the Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois, starting in June 2027. This deal, which involves approximately 1.1 gigawatts of emissions-free nuclear energy, will support Meta's clean energy goals and operations. The agreement also ensures the continued operation and relicensing of the Clinton nuclear facility, preserving over a thousand local jobs and providing significant tax revenue for the city.

Hell must be freezing. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/instag... Instagram is releasing an App for the iPad later this year, as it is currently in "active testing" by employees. I don't personally use any Facebook/Meta products anymore, but I legit remember this being an annoyance all the way back in 2011. I had a smartphone but I preferred using my 3rd generation iPad for just about everything because it was so far ahead of any other technology. But Instagram would only load as an iPhone app with all the incorrect sizing and whatnot. Incredible it's now 2025 and Facebook is just now getting around to producing a native iPad app. Think of all the businesses that use Instagram these days to get work done - whether for reaching out to customers or even dealing with customer support through DMs. And they have been forced to do all that on a tiny phone screen all this time.

Anyone notice the Zuck is still driving bulldozers of cash into the Metaverse? Coming up on $70 spent on a dumb idea literally nobody was asking for.
