OpenAI admits they do not have any current plans to make use of Google's tensor processing units (TPUs), despite ongoing rumors in the media to the contrary. An OpenAI spokesperson says OpenAI is in early testing of the TPUs but currently has no plans to deploy them at scale. Last month though, OpenAI allegedly signed a significant deal with Google Cloud to handle the company's general compute needs. This is a surprising move considering Microsoft owns 49% of OpenAI and offers their own Azure platform.
